The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), at 100 Queen’s Park in Toronto, brings together natural history, world cultures, art and design. Admission hours, prices, exhibitions and construction routes can change, so check ROM visitor information and ROM What’s On before planning your visit. about the museum

ROM can fit into a downtown Toronto day and offers an indoor option in poor weather. Galleries and special exhibitions change; use the ROM maps and tours to choose the areas that interest you, then leave time for breaks at a pace that works for your group. ROM’s FAQ gives an average visit of about 2.5 to 3 hours. Treat that as a guide: a closer look at exhibitions or an event can take longer. General galleries and special exhibitions can have different ticket terms, so check them separately.

Tickets, free admission and timing

ROM uses date- and time-based admission. Its Plan Ahead Pricing calendar shows the price for the date you select; booking earlier may save money and secures an admission time. Prices vary by date, ticket type and exhibition, so this guide does not list a fixed amount. Some special exhibitions cost extra. Before paying, check what your ticket includes and buy through ROM’s official ticketing page. Confirm current prices, entry terms and hours in ROM visitor information.

Third Tuesday Nights Free runs on the third Tuesday of each month from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. General admission is free, but you must reserve a time slot online; walk-ins are not available. Tickets are usually released two weeks before the event. Special exhibitions are excluded and may be added for a surcharge. Check Third Tuesday Nights Free for the current date and booking details. ROM also lists selected student, library-pass and community-access offers; eligibility varies, so confirm the terms on the official visitor-information page.

If you want to see both the general galleries and a special exhibition, check the ticket type first: ROM says special-exhibition tickets include general admission, while Third Tuesday free admission excludes special exhibitions. Whether an add-on is available depends on the event page. After booking, use the museum map to choose a manageable route. Do not rely on older photographs or guides for current entrances or gallery access; ROM updates temporary closures and detours in its visitor information.

Getting there, entrances and visiting with family

ROM’s address is 100 Queen’s Park. Museum Station is the closest TTC stop, but it is stairs-only. If you need an elevator, use St. George Station and the Bedford Road exit. From Museum Station, follow the current street route to ROM’s Weston Entrance; the station does not open directly into the galleries. ROM currently says the Bloor Street entrance to the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal is closed during OpenROM construction. The Weston Entrance on Queen’s Park remains open and has a ramp and automatic doors. Construction may also close selected galleries. Check ROM location and parking, ROM accessibility information and on-site notices before you go.

ROM has no on-site parking lot; nearby city-operated and other lots are listed on its ROM location and parking page. Rates depend on the lot and time. The TTC lets children 12 and under ride free; other members of your group need the fare that applies to them. See the TTC fare rules for details. With children, choose one or two priority galleries and plan for meal and rest breaks. If you need an accessible route or other support, review ROM’s current information about ramps, elevators, wheelchairs and gallery access in advance.

ROM currently says a limited number of manual wheelchairs are available free of charge at coat check with photo ID; no reservation is needed. The Museum does not provide a wheelchair-pushing attendant, though a support person may qualify for free admission under its policy. If you may need a chair, check the ROM accessibility information and allow time to arrange it.

This is a historical exterior photograph of ROM taken in 2010.
