Neighbourhood and market details were checked against tourism and operator sources; business hours, menus and transit arrangements can change.

When planning meals in Vancouver, start with where you will already be and decide whether crossing town makes sense. This is a neighbourhood guide, not a restaurant ranking or a promise that any area will suit every taste. Use the district notes to narrow your search, then confirm details with the business.

Choose an area around your plans

If you are spending time downtown, begin with its walkable districts. Destination Vancouver distinguishes areas such as Coal Harbour, Robson Street, Yaletown, Gastown and Chinatown, each with a different dining setting. Narrow your options by where you are staying, what you are visiting and the kind of meal you want, then check the restaurant’s own page for its current menu, hours and reservations. Its Downtown dining and neighbourhood guide is a starting point, not a same-day hours guarantee.

For a stretch of East Vancouver with independent shops and eateries, consider Commercial Drive as its own outing. Destination Vancouver describes The Drive as about 22 blocks long, with restaurants, specialty food shops, cafés, bakeries and bars. The historic Little Italy designation covers eight blocks north and south of East 1st Avenue; it does not mean the entire Drive serves only Italian food. Pick a place based on what you want to eat and confirm its current details before setting out. See the Commercial Drive neighbourhood profile.

Richmond works as a separate dining area rather than a walkable extension of downtown Vancouver. Tourism Richmond’s food and drink guide is one way to explore local options. The Richmond Night Market, once a seasonal attraction, ended its final season in September 2026. Tourism Richmond now lists it as closed; do not plan it as a currently operating event. Check the organizer’s announcement if a new season is ever announced.

Granville Island Public Market lets a group choose food from different stalls rather than one restaurant. The managing organization currently lists regular market hours as 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with exceptions for statutory holidays, Monday maintenance in January and extended summer hours; individual businesses can keep different hours. Check the official Public Market page and the business directory instead of assuming every stall follows the market schedule.

Before travelling between areas, use TransLink’s visitor guide to check a route and fare. Fares in Metro Vancouver depend on travel mode, time and fare zones; bus and SkyTrain rules are not identical. This guide avoids a fixed fare amount. If you are visiting more than one district in a day, check transfers and the return trip before building the schedule around a market or restaurant that may close.

Ask each business directly about its menu, allergy information, reservations and payment methods. Tourism guides and reviews can help you make a shortlist, but they cannot guarantee what is available on the day.
