The national hourly median displayed in Job Bank’s current profile comes from the Labour Force Survey and carries a data period; it is not a new graduate’s starting wage, after-tax income or an individual offer. For housing, distinguish Statistics Canada’s experimental asking rent for advertised units from paid rent reported by tenants, and distinguish CMHC measures for occupied, vacant and turnover units. Subtracting a platform rent from a national wage median does not prove that a city offers the best value. An early-career applicant can make evidence concrete: project scope, personal contribution, tools, tests and outcome. Statistics Canada’s early study of generative AI found that, through the third quarter of 2025, vacancies in occupations with higher exposure and lower complementarity fell at a rate similar to vacancies in less-exposed occupations. That evidence does not establish that AI alone caused a Canadian decline in junior jobs. Statistics Canada early evidence on generative AI and employment.

Separate permission to work, employer steps and immigration categories

As of September 2026, Express Entry still has a STEM category, but “technology” in a title does not put every tech occupation on its list. The current list includes cybersecurity specialists (NOC 21220) and several engineering occupations; it does not list software developers and programmers (NOC 21232) or data scientists (NOC 21211). The STEM category currently requires at least 12 months of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in one eligible occupation during the past three years. The experience need not be continuous and may be from Canada or abroad. A person must still qualify for an Express Entry program, enter the pool, meet the category criteria and be selected in an actual round. A title, job offer or listed occupation does not guarantee permanent residence. IRCC 2026 category criteria and occupation table, IRCC 2026 category update.

A work permit and immigration selection are also separate processes. For a position requiring an employer-specific work permit, the employer provides a contract and either an LMIA or an LMIA-exempt offer number; which route applies depends on the job and permit category. Pause when someone asks you to pay for a job, promises a visa or guarantees an unusually high salary. IRCC says no one can guarantee a job or a visa. Cross-check the company’s official domain and registration, the interviewers and written terms, and enter applications from Canada.ca. IRCC employer-specific work permits, IRCC job and immigration scam warnings.

A practical order is: identify the NOC from the duties; compare regions and data dates under that NOC; separately check current postings, language, wages and housing measures; confirm your present authority to work; and only then assess immigration options against your own facts. For SIN, banking, healthcare, housing and other settlement steps, use our Canada life guide. This process cannot guarantee an offer, but it prevents a city brand, one salary number or an immigration label from replacing review of a real posting.

Use Job Bank, Statistics Canada and IRCC sources to compare technology occupations, city outlooks, wage and rent measures, the 2026 STEM list and work authorization.

Unsupported material claims removed from public display; original content retained in protected post meta; URL retained as noindex historical archive.
["https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/summary-occupation/22532/ca","https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/outlookreport/occupation/22531","https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/outlook-occupation/22548/geo9219","https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/outlook-occupation/22532/39070","https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/outlook-occupation/22548/geo25154","https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/260909/dq260909c-eng.pdf","https://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/professionals/housing-markets-data-and-research/housing-research/surveys/methods/methodology-rental-market-survey","https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/36-28-0001/2026001/article/00003-eng.pdf","https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/rounds-invitations/category-based-selection.html","https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2026/02/attracting-the-worlds-best-talent-to-fill-canadas-labour-gaps-and-build-our-economy.html","https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/employer-specific.html","https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/protect-fraud/internet-email-telephone.html
[16,34,743,137,138
159,122
775
808
823
829
post-1717","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-canada-life-guide","category-newcomer-checklist","category-job-search-career","category-student-life","category-visa-immigration-tips","tag-159","tag-newcomer","lc_primary_section-canada-life","lc_location-canada","lc_topic-work-career","lc_freshness-annual
["GET
