Loblaw’s records list banners such as Loblaw, Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills. METRO separates Metro and Metro Plus, Super C and Food Basics into different market and discount formats. One store’s price or service cannot be generalized to the whole group. Loblaw banner record, METRO format record.

A useful comparison fixes the basket: the same weight or volume, comparable brand tier and the same date. Record unit price, member price, quantity limits, return terms and travel cost. A larger pack can have a lower unit price but a higher total, while a discount store may offer fewer prepared foods, counters or delivery options. Points save money only if the shopper will use them.

Region matters. METRO’s own record places its main food network in Québec and Ontario, while other groups also use different banners by province. After moving, search the actual address and compare one week of common items instead of following a national ranking. The Competition Bureau’s 2026 follow-up also treats clear and consistent unit pricing as a policy that helps comparison. Competition Bureau 2026 report.

To control spending, compare staples, proteins, produce and household supplies separately and retain the unit prices.
