Richmond Celebrates Soccer ran from June 12 to July 19, combining public match viewing, soccer activities and cultural programming at different community sites. The City now presents the program as a past event. Its dates and venues need to be distinguished when looking back; the entire series did not take place in Steveston. City of Richmond.

The City’s April 21 announcement identifies the City of Richmond, Tourism Richmond and the Richmond Hotel Association as the co-presenters, with support from British Columbia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. The World Soccer Day Kick-Off took place at the Richmond Olympic Oval on June 12. The organizer’s record lists a 10 a.m.–8:30 p.m. event, including Canada versus Bosnia and Herzegovina at noon and USA versus Paraguay at 6 p.m. These were local public viewing times and venues, not national-team matches played at the Oval. City of Richmond. Richmond Celebrates Soccer organizer.

The neighbourhood events had their own settings and activities. Hamilton’s Soccer Slam was at Hamilton Community Park on June 14. City Centre Celebrates Soccer was at Garden City Community Park on June 21; the announcement also listed traditional Indigenous games, cedar weaving and cultural activities. Steveston Celebrates Soccer was the July 18 event at Steveston Community Park. Keeping these places separate avoids treating downtown Richmond and Steveston as stops on the same short walk. City of Richmond. City of Richmond.

The July 19 closing event was at Aberdeen Neighbourhood Park, with published hours of 11 a.m.–6 p.m. and a World Cup final viewing at noon. The organizer discouraged reliance on general on-site parking and suggested walking from Aberdeen Station or using free shuttles from Richmond City Hall and H.J. Cambie Secondary School. The page also listed a small number of accessible parking spaces on Brown Road. These were arrangements for that historical event, not an ongoing shuttle service or directions for the Oval opener and every other park. Richmond Celebrates Soccer organizer.

The original program announcement described free public watch parties, and the closing event’s FAQ explicitly said no ticket was needed. Food trucks, performances and family activities varied by event; one venue’s rules and facilities should not be applied to the entire series. This review records how local communities participated in the World Cup, rather than inviting bookings for a future edition.
