Unlike past editions where a single host nation staged just one global opening ceremony, this time it was handled country by country: each of the three host nations held an opening celebration before its own first match. Mexico\u2019s took place on 6\/11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City (with Shakira, Man\u00e1 and Andrea Bocelli performing in turn before kickoff, after which Mexico beat South Africa 2:0); Canada and the United States each held their own on 6\/12. Bosnia and Herzegovina led in the first half through a goal by Luki\u0107, and Canadian substitute <strong>Cyle Larin<\/strong> equalized in the 78th minute, with the match ending 1:1. That 1 point was the first point Canada has ever earned in World Cup history\u2014they lost all six of their matches across their two previous appearances in 1986 and 2022, and this was also the first World Cup match the team has played on home soil. For transport, BMO Field sits at Exhibition Place, and taking the TTC (transfer to the 509\/511 streetcar at Bathurst station, or take the 509 from Union Station) is less hassle than driving, since matchday traffic restrictions and parking fees nearby are unfriendly. The best value is for those who want to experience both \u201cthe ceremony plus Canada\u2019s home opener,\u201d since both are on the same ticket and the same day; for those who just want to watch the match and have no interest in the performances, arriving a bit later doesn\u2019t affect the game itself.<\/p>\n<p>As for Vancouver fans, there\u2019s no need to fly all the way to Toronto just for the opening.
