In their second Group K outing at the 2026 World Cup, Colombia edged Congo DR 1-0 at the Estadio Akron (Guadalajara Stadium) in Guadalajara to keep their perfect start intact. Colombia dominated from the first whistle, piling up roughly fifteen shots by half-time, but Congo DR goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi was inspired, repeatedly denying the South Americans and keeping the scoreline blank. The deadlock finally broke in the 76th minute, when right-back Daniel Muñoz struck low from the right side of the penalty area, the ball taking a deflection and creeping in at the near post for the game’s only goal. It was Muñoz’s second strike in as many World Cup matches. With no red cards, penalties, VAR reversals or own goals, Colombia held on for a hard-earned three points.
Two wins from two and six points saw Colombia secure their place in the Round of 32 with a game to spare. Congo DR, left on a single point, must now beat Uzbekistan in their final match and hope other results fall their way to keep any qualification hopes alive. Colombia close the group stage against Portugal on 27 June at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, with top spot on the line, while Congo DR face Uzbekistan the same day in Atlanta.
