In the closing Group D fixture of the 2026 World Cup at Los Angeles Stadium, Turkey edged hosts USA 3-2 to claim their only win of the tournament. The Americans started fast, Auston Trusty heading home from a set piece in the 3rd minute, but Turkey hit back quickly: Real Madrid starlet Arda Güler levelled in the 10th minute, and Barış Alper Yılmaz made it 2-1 in the 31st. That second goal was initially attributed to Orkun Kökçü, but FIFA officially credited the deflected finish to Yılmaz. After the break, Sebastian Berhalter drew the USA level again in the 49th minute, and Christian Pulisic, returning from a calf injury off the bench, struck the post. The deadlock held until stoppage time, when substitute Kaan Ayhan slid in a close-range winner in the 90+8th minute to seal a dramatic result for Turkey.

It was a dead rubber for both sides. The USA, who had already beaten Paraguay and Australia, had secured top spot in Group D before kickoff, while Turkey were already eliminated after earlier defeats to Australia and Paraguay, playing only for pride. Despite this first loss of the tournament, the Americans march on as group winners into the Round of 32, where they face Bosnia and Herzegovina on 1 July in the San Francisco Bay Area at Santa Clara.
