France closed their Group I campaign at the 2026 World Cup with a commanding 4-1 win over Norway at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Forward Ousmane Dembélé was unstoppable, opening the scoring in the 7th minute, adding a second in the 20th, and completing his hat-trick in the 32nd minute for the second-fastest treble in tournament history. Norway’s only reply came from Thelo Aasgaard in the 21st minute, who struck straight from the restart after Dembélé’s second goal. In the second half, Norway won a penalty in the 50th minute, but Jørgen Strand Larsen’s spot-kick was comfortably saved by France goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Désiré Doué headed in France’s fourth in stoppage time (90+4) to seal the 4-1 scoreline.
The result saw France finish top of Group I with a perfect record of three wins and nine points — the first time Les Bleus have won all three group matches at a World Cup since their triumph on home soil in 1998. Norway progressed as runners-up. In the round of 32, France face a third-placed qualifier on 30 June at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, while Norway meet Ivory Coast the same day in Dallas.
