In the final round of Group B at the 2026 World Cup, Canada lost 1-2 to Switzerland at their BC Place home in Vancouver. Switzerland struck early in the second half through Rubén Vargas (46′) and added a second via Johan Manzambi (57′); Promise David pulled one back for Canada on 76 minutes, but it wasn’t quite enough.
Despite the defeat, Canada still advanced to the Round of 32 as Group B runners-up — their best-ever World Cup showing — while Switzerland finished top of the group. For Canadian fans at the ground or watching on TV it was a night that stung yet still sealed qualification; BC Place is one of Canada’s host venues this tournament, and only days earlier Canada had beaten Qatar 6-0 there for their first-ever World Cup win.
