Belgium closed out Group G in style at BC Place in Vancouver, brushing aside New Zealand 5-1. Leandro Trossard opened the scoring in the 28th minute and struck again in the 50th to complete his brace, before captain Kevin De Bruyne extended the lead in the 66th minute. Romelu Lukaku added a fourth in the 86th minute and Alexis Saelemaekers rounded things off deep into stoppage time at 90+4′. New Zealand’s only reply came from Elijah Just, who netted a consolation goal in the 84th minute. Belgium had earlier been denied a penalty when VAR overturned the decision, ruling that a Trossard effort had struck defender Finn Surman on the arm.
The win sent Belgium through as Group G winners on five points with a goal difference of +4, edging out Egypt, who also finished on five points but with +2. Egypt advanced as runners-up, while Iran and New Zealand were both eliminated at the group stage. Belgium now turn to the Round of 32, where they face Senegal on 1 July 2026 at Lumen Field in Seattle for a place in the last 16.
