Brazil underlined their status as tournament favourites with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Scotland at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring after just seven minutes, pouncing on a Scottish defensive error, and doubled his tally in first-half stoppage time (45+3) with a header from a Bruno Guimarães cross. Matheus Cunha added the third in the 60th minute to put the result beyond doubt, as Brazil dominated possession and chances while Scotland struggled to respond.
The victory sent Brazil top of Group C on seven points and safely into the knockout stage, while Scotland finished third and were eliminated, missing out on a place among the best third-placed teams. In the Round of 32 that followed, Brazil fell behind against Japan before substitute Gabriel Martinelli struck a stoppage-time winner to seal a 2-1 comeback and a place in the Round of 16, where they will face the winner of Ivory Coast versus Norway.
