Deep into the quarter-final stage, two matches are left to settle the final two semi-final places: Norway against England, and Argentina against Switzerland. Same deal for both — win and you’re in the semis, lose and you’re packing, straight knockout with no room to negotiate.
Norway getting all the way to the quarters is one of the talking points of this tournament; against a traditional heavyweight like England, it comes down to who controls the tempo first. On the other side, Argentina against Switzerland is the kind of back-and-forth where neither can afford to lose — just picturing it is fun.
Purely in terms of the picture, the winners of these two fill out the other half of the semi-finals, joining the sides already through. As for who’s in good form and who has worries, we’ll let the matches themselves tell that story — no scripting the players in advance.
What to watch next: both fall between the early morning and mid-morning of July 12 Taiwan time (check our guide). If you’re following the live streams, line them up in order. Scores and schedule go by the official source: FIFA official schedule.
