Belgium’s 2026 World Cup Round-of-32 tie against Senegal is being remembered for its extra-time comeback — but there was also an off-script moment on the field: during play, three pitch invaders ran onto the field, briefly halting the match. It happened at Lumen Field (Seattle Stadium) in Seattle, USA.
According to several outlets, the invasion came shortly after Senegal midfielder Habib Diarra opened the scoring in the 24th minute, during a hydration break. After the intruders reached the grass, around a dozen security staff moved in to remove them, and play soon resumed. Some reports say the invaders wore tops bearing the name of the betting platform “Duel” and smart glasses, apparently to record the stunt; their identities and whether they face any penalties remain to be clarified by organisers and police.
Back to the football: Senegal led 2-0 through Diarra and Ismaïla Sarr, before Belgium struck twice late — Romelu Lukaku (86′) and Youri Tielemans (89′) — to force extra time. Tielemans then converted a penalty near the end to win it 3-2 and send Belgium into the last 16; his goal, timed at 124 minutes and 44 seconds, is the latest match-winning goal in World Cup history.
