With the 2026 World Cup kicking off across the three host nations of Canada, the United States and Mexico, the City of Richmond in British Columbia is rolling out a city-wide, six-week-long soccer carnival, “Richmond Celebrates Soccer.” This is not a single watch party but a series of events jointly led by the City of Richmond, Tourism Richmond and the Richmond Hotel Association, and funded by BC’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. Running from June 12 all the way to July 19, it spreads free big-screen match viewings, food trucks, live performances and family games across multiple community parks throughout the city.

From my own experience with these kinds of outdoor watch events in Metro Vancouver, the popular sessions (especially on the days Canada is playing) can get packed; if you want a good spot, arrive early, and bringing a folding chair and a picnic blanket makes it much more comfortable. The June sun in Richmond is strong during the day, so don’t forget sun protection and water.

One thing to watch for transport: the main venues this time are spread out rather than concentrated in Steveston. For the opening session at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the easiest route is to take the Canada Line to Brighouse Station and then transfer to the 414 bus; the other community parks are each near different bus routes, so before setting out it is best to use TransLink to check the connection to your chosen park for that day. The Steveston area itself is relatively far from the Canada Line, so you will mostly have to transfer to a bus or drive yourself.
