When renting a car in Canada, decide where you will return it before comparing daily rates. Enterprise branch rentals, Evo car sharing, Modo’s cooperative membership and Turo’s host marketplace have different eligibility and trip arrangements. Evo and Modo’s British Columbia services are not options in every Canadian city. A short one-way journey also needs a different comparison from several consecutive days of driving. Permission to drive and a provider’s willingness to rent are separate tests. In British Columbia, ICBC allows tourists with a valid out-of-province licence to drive for up to six months. People moving to the province generally have 90 days to exchange their licence, with exceptions including qualifying students. These are not nationwide deadlines or guarantees of car-sharing membership. Check provincial licensing rules first, then the provider’s age, record and document requirements. Enterprise’s general minimum rental age in Canada is 21. Drivers aged 21–24 may face vehicle-class restrictions and a young-renter fee; 25 is not a universal minimum. An eligible credit or debit card may be accepted, although some branches require a credit card. Read the actual pickup branch’s renter requirements for age, payment, deposit and opening hours before booking, so a reservation does not end with a refused handover. Official information · Enterprise.

Enterprise requires the valid, unexpired original photo licence and rejects digital licences, photocopies and learner’s permits. A licence in a non-English language using a non-Latin alphabet requires an International Driving Permit. A professional typed translation can substitute only if an IDP cannot be obtained in the issuing country. For Latin-alphabet licences in languages other than English or French, an IDP is recommended for translation. The IDP cannot stand alone; some branches also require a passport or travel documents. Enterprise rentals in Canada require a deposit, with the amount varying by branch. Its Canadian payment FAQ lists credit cards and conditional debit-card acceptance. Prepaid gift cards may be used at the end of the rental; that does not make them acceptable at pickup. A reservation confirmation is not approval of your particular card. Confirm pickup payment, available funds or credit, and the deposit, and retain the written conditions. Official information · Enterprise. Official information · Enterprise.

Insurance, a damage waiver and card benefits need separate checks. Enterprise’s optional, paid Damage Waiver (DW) is a contractual waiver or reduction of liability, not insurance, and remains subject to the rental agreement. The provider cannot determine whether your existing card or auto policy is adequate. Ask the coverage provider about eligible vehicles, rental duration and territory. Enterprise’s Personal Accident Insurance and Personal Effects Coverage (PAI-PEC) are not available for rentals originating in British Columbia. Official information · Enterprise.

For a US trip, Enterprise says most vehicles rented in Canada may cross the border, but the pickup branch must confirm restrictions. This does not approve every vehicle or a different return location. Compare complete quotes for the same dates, vehicle class, protection and pickup and return points. Duration, vehicle class, protection, extras and changes to dates, rental length or return location can affect the total. There is no verified rule that booking a fixed number of weeks ahead is always cheapest. Official information · Enterprise. Official information · Enterprise.

Evo generally requires members to be at least 18, hold a valid licence and credit card, and have at least two years’ driving experience with an acceptable record. Applicants with licences from outside BC, including other countries, can apply with the issuing jurisdiction’s driving record and any required English translation. Membership is not restricted to Canadian licences. A complete application still needs review; registering on arrival does not guarantee immediate driving access. Official information · Evo.

Evo’s ordinary one-way service lets you reserve an available car up to 30 minutes ahead or use an available car on the street. You can leave the Home Zone during a trip, but must finish in permitted parking within the same originating zone. Metro Vancouver and Victoria are not interchangeable return zones. A stopover keeps the rental clock running, and private parking charges are not automatically included. Official information · Evo.

Evo Return is a round-trip reservation service. Its current Return Zones are at King George SkyTrain station in Surrey and the Hullo ferry terminal in Nanaimo. Booking opens up to 30 days ahead, with rentals from one hour to 30 days. Return to the original Return Zone. Ordinary one-way Evos cannot end trips in Return-only spaces. Return charges follow the booked period, so bringing the car back early does not automatically reduce the bill; check cancellation and late-return conditions too. Official information · Evo.

Evo includes fuel, insurance, approved parking and unlimited kilometres, but damage liability remains. Its July 2026 agreement lists a usual CAD250 damage fee, rising to as much as CAD750 for incomplete or inaccurate damage reporting. Breaching the agreement can expose you to full repair and related costs. Inspect and report existing damage before driving and contact Evo immediately after an incident. Neither ordinary Evo nor Return permits US travel; prohibited forest-service roads are not an optional paid extra. Official information · Evo. Official information · Evo.

Modo is a membership cooperative, generally requiring a valid licence and a two-year driving record. Out-of-province and foreign licence holders may apply; non-English records require an ICBC-approved translator. Online registration does not accept prepaid or debit cards, while other payment arrangements depend on application type. Its Green plan accommodates eligible learners and new drivers aged 16 or older. Under-18 L or N licence holders need sponsorship by a qualifying member aged 25 or older; this is not an instant, unscreened tourist rental. Official information · Modo. Official information · Modo.

Modo lets you reserve a specific car, which must return on time to its Home Location. You cannot leave it in another service zone as with a one-way Evo. Online bookings can last up to 10 days; longer bookings require customer support. Time and kilometre charges depend on membership and the booking. Fuel, charging, basic protection and maintenance are included, but parking must still be permitted. Leave at least a quarter tank in petrol cars, plug electric cars in at their home spot, and follow the handbook’s return checks. Official information · Modo. Official information · Modo.

Modo’s third-party liability coverage is separate from damage charges for its own cars. Its fleet carries up to CAD5 million in ICBC third-party liability insurance and is self-insured for its own vehicle damage. Members may still owe a damage fee; prohibited use, failure to report or an unauthorized driver can create full liability. Using credit-card CLDI requires confirmed eligibility and activation of the account option; trucks, cargo vans and certain special vehicles are excluded. The Damage Pool has membership restrictions and expires after paying a damage fee, requiring re-enrolment. Official information · Modo. Official information · Modo.

Turo lets guests book vehicles listed by hosts. Check the selected car’s pickup and return location, delivery arrangements, mileage and dates. Canada’s general minimum age is 23, with higher requirements possible for particular vehicle classes. Every driver needs a valid licence and approval. Only the primary guest can request additional drivers; a host cannot approve them for you. Borrowing an account or reaching a verbal agreement with the host does not establish platform approval. Official information · Turo.

Turo’s Canadian guest plans differ from host revenue-share percentages. At review, Premier, where offered, Standard and Minimum limit responsibility for covered exterior damage to CAD0, CAD500 and CAD2000 respectively. Declining protection leaves no limit. These are conditional contractual limits, not vehicle-damage insurance. Separate CAD2 million third-party liability insurance addresses injury to others or their property, not the host’s car. Applicable personal insurance generally responds first. Do not assume a credit card covers peer-to-peer rentals. Official information · Turo.

Turo’s protection does not cover interior or mechanical damage caused by neglect or abuse. Prohibited use and unapproved drivers also affect protection. Take clear pickup and return photos, report damage through Help in the app, notify the host and retain conversations. Read the booking’s cancellation terms: the usual full-refund deadline is 24 hours before the trip, with an exception for non-refundable discounts. Trips booked less than 24 hours before starting generally have a one-hour free-cancellation window after booking. Official information · Turo. Official information · Turo.

Check winter equipment by province, road and date; Canada does not have a single nationwide rental-car tire or chain rule. On designated BC roads, the winter-tire period commonly starts October 1 and ends March 31 or April 30. Passenger tires meeting the legal minimum may carry M+S or the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, with at least 3.5mm tread. Four-wheel drive is not exempt. A legal minimum is not a guarantee of safe snow driving. Confirm the actual tires suit the route. Modo also prohibits fitting tire chains, so carrying chains cannot substitute for an appropriate car. Plan the return procedure when booking. Confirm that an Evo trip has ended in the app and the car is locked; return a Modo to its home spot, lock it and inspect it; complete Turo’s agreed handover, photos and damage reporting. Keep booking terms, trip-end confirmation, fuel or charging records and invoices to clarify later charges. This does not guarantee refunds in disputes. Private transfers, borrowed accounts and unauthorized drivers are not substitutes for these services’ approved procedures. Official information · Evo. Official information · Modo. Start with driver age, available documents, trip duration and whether you can return to the pickup area. Compare Evo for short one-way trips within Metro Vancouver’s service zone; approved members can compare Modo or Evo Return for planned round trips. Enterprise offers branch pickup, while Turo calls for reviewing the individual vehicle listing. This is a choice based on service design, not a price or insurance ranking. Use the Vancouver guide to fit driving into the city itinerary, then decide which days actually need a car. Official information · Evo. Official information · Modo. Official information · Enterprise.
