Combine a College Street walk with a meal rather than a compulsory restaurant checklist. The City’s BIA directory places the Little Italy business improvement area along College Street from Bathurst to Shaw. That is an organisation’s boundary, not the limit of Toronto’s Italian community. The local BIA, founded in 1985, represents area businesses and property members. The strip now includes varied restaurants, cafés, services and shops; every business is not necessarily Italian. Pick a venue on this stretch before choosing your arrival and departure points, rather than merging other Italian neighbourhoods into the same walk.
There is also a history of migration and public life. Heritage Toronto describes Italian settlement along College Street and its postwar growth; Café Diplomatico opened in 1968 as part of its café culture. That history does not make today’s residents or menus culturally uniform. Respect each shop’s arrangements for entering and taking photos. This is a planning guide without a personal dining account, taste ranking, crowd guarantee or invented memory. A historic opening date is not evidence that a business is open every day now.
Compare venues using their own information. Café Diplomatico lists 594 College St and hours of 08:00–00:00 Sunday–Thursday and 08:00–02:00 Friday–Saturday; 00:00 means midnight. Bar Raval lists 505 College St, daily hours of 13:00–01:00 and no reservations. These were the published details when checked, not guarantees for holidays or identical kitchen and bar closing times. For an early meal, children or dietary requirements, check the day’s menu and admission conditions and ask the venue. Late opening does not promise every dish throughout the night.
Recheck gelato addresses instead of following the old 697 College Street listing. Dolce Gelato says it has left its original College Street home and lists 414 Danforth Ave and 234 Augusta Ave in Kensington Market; contact it for hours. Treat either shop as a separate outing, not the next stop on College. The two addresses are distinct, and 234 is on Augusta Avenue. An old menu or defunct domain for another shop cannot establish that its former address still serves the same food. Verify venue and location before estimating a walk.
Separate festival dates from ordinary visits. The organiser’s Taste of Little Italy 2026 ran June 12–14 and had ended by this October review. Free admission does not mean food, shopping or every individual activity is free. No unverified 2027 dates are announced here, and that edition’s closures, crowds or stages do not describe today. Plan ordinary walks around actual business hours. For a later festival, wait for that edition’s official dates, area and transport arrangements. The 2026 World Cup has ended; it is not a future booking rush for current restaurant seats.
Check TTC’s 506 Carlton route and service alerts before travelling. The retrieved eastbound and westbound streetcar branches include College stops at Bathurst and Grace, while a separate 506B replacement bus runs between Spadina Station and Broadview/Gerrard. These are not universally interchangeable through services. Check stop, direction and destination, and verify transfers during diversions. There is no fixed ten-minute station-to-restaurant promise or blanket accessibility claim here. With a stroller, wheelchair or limited walking ability, check the actual stops and available service, not only the number 506.
