Updated October 8, 2026.

The official VIFF 2026 programme lists the festival’s forty-fifth edition for October 1–11. Our October 8 review falls within that period, so this is no longer a pre-opening announcement. Choose dates, running times, original languages and subtitles before comparing tickets. Films, talks, live performances and industry events are distinct programmes; one ticket or pass need not cover them all.
On October 8, VIFF’s ticket information listed a regular adult festival film ticket at C$22, including a C$3 service charge but excluding GST. Some events also have a facility fee. This is not a universal final price. Check the specific screening and checkout breakdown without adding the included service charge twice or applying the regular film rate to special events.
Ticket packs provide account credits for particular screenings. They exclude Galas, Talks, VIFF Live, Industry and special events; unused credits do not carry over to year-round screenings or qualify for partial refunds or downgrades. At this review, ten-ticket packs and several regular passes were marked sold out. An old sale announcement does not prove current availability. Check whether your chosen screenings can be redeemed before buying a pack.
A pass differs from a booked single-screening ticket. Festival Pass seat allotments are held until twenty minutes before showtime or until that allotment fills; later arrivals or those beyond the allotment join Standby. Standby admission depends on seats remaining after other patrons enter and is not guaranteed; Lochmaddy Studio Theatre offers none. Regular tickets are valid until showtime, with late seating at the venue’s discretion. Refund and exchange rules distinguish used tickets and films already screened, so contact the box office early about changes.
Use the 2026 venue page rather than assuming every screening is at the VIFF Centre, 1181 Seymour Street. The festival uses multiple locations. Box offices generally open thirty minutes before that theatre’s first screening of the day, or forty-five at Vancouver Playhouse. That is a box-office opening time, not guaranteed admission to every session. Identify your theatre before planning transport and subsequent reservations.
Venue conditions vary. Fifth Avenue Cinemas, The Park Theatre and Rio Theatre are listed as nineteen-plus with ID required; that is not a festival-wide rule. International Village’s upward escalators are listed out of service, with elevators operating but potentially slower. For an accessible seat, the ticket page directs patrons to book with the box office. Match age and mobility requirements to the actual screening rather than inferring admission from the film’s subject.
Before paying, confirm the date, showtime, venue, ticket type and party size, then keep the confirmation. Check programme updates on the day. Our Vancouver city guide can help with daytime plans; allow transport time based on your starting point and current services. This guide records the 2026 edition and review date, without guaranteeing next year’s prices, venues or ticket conditions.
