Canada's 2026 World Cup opening ceremony took place at Toronto Stadium on June 12, not at BC Place in Vancouver. FIFA's June 9 preview scheduled a 13:30 local start, 90 minutes before Canada faced Bosnia and Herzegovina; the original match record gives a 15:00 kick-off. The 13:30 time was the announced programme schedule, rather than an independently timed start of the actual performance. FIFA. FIFA.
The preview named Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream and William Prince among the performers. FIFA described a mosaic-inspired reinterpretation of the World Cup Trophy, produced in creative partnership with Balich Wonder Studio. This was a planned line-up and concept; the announcement alone does not establish every segment or each artist's eventual performance details. FIFA.
FIFA's July 3 review of Toronto's matches separately confirms performances by Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette before Canada's opener, with Morissette and the crowd singing O Canada. It also names Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Elyanna and actor Will Arnett. Song titles, stage props and a segment-by-segment running order not verified by these original documents are not retained here. FIFA.
After the ceremony, Canada's men's team drew 1–1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina. FIFA describes it as the team's first World Cup match on home soil. The men's-team and World Cup qualifications matter: omitting them could wrongly imply Canada had never hosted any other World Cup competition. The competition's venue name was Toronto Stadium; see the review of Toronto’s 2026 World Cup preparations for historical venue context. FIFA. FIFA.
