Historical record of July 2026 wildfire smoke over Toronto. NASA captured the plume by satellite; check current AQHI and official guidance.
NASA’s July 14, 2026, NOAA-21 VIIRS image documented Ontario wildfire smoke moving southeast. By mid-July, nearly 850 fires were active in Canada, including more than 180 in Ontario.

NASA notes that smoke’s effect on air quality depended on altitude: smoke high in the atmosphere had little ground-level impact, while conditions worsened where it moved closer to the surface. The image records the plume on that date; it cannot establish today’s AQHI for any Toronto neighbourhood.
The AQHI describes health risk for a local area and can vary with time and distance. Before outdoor activities, check Environment and Climate Change Canada’s AQHI information and current readings. Toronto Public Health also provides guidance for wildfire smoke and indoor air. This article omits the July 2026 live readings that could not be reproduced from a preserved original official snapshot.
