After the 2024 wildfire that hit Jasper National Park hard, several popular hiking trails have undergone restoration work and reopened for the 2026 hiking season. These include the scenic Valley of the Five Lakes trail, the Wabasso Lake trail extension to Curator Lodge, and the well-known long-distance Skyline Trail — all of which were directly damaged by the fire and have now reopened following ground restoration and vegetation recovery work.
Another marquee spot, Maligne Lake, has also reopened, along with Maligne Road, the canyon-carved Maligne Canyon, and the surrounding day-hiking trails, which are all accessible again. Overall, as of 2026, Jasper’s main roads are operating normally, essential services are fully functional, and most accommodations, restaurants and attractions have reopened to welcome visitors.
A reminder for anyone planning a visit: recovering vegetation areas are sensitive wildlife habitat, and the park restricts dogs from certain trails and areas to reduce stress on grizzly bears, caribou, ground-nesting birds and other sensitive species.
