Some Jasper trails are accessible again, but that does not mean the whole area has reopened. Our earlier statement that Maligne Canyon was open was incorrect. Parks Canada’s canyon notice says Maligne Canyon and Cavell Road remain closed for the 2026 season. Do not enter closed areas on the strength of an old article or photograph.

The September 11 entries in the official trail report, checked for this update, rate Wetland Way, Emerald Loop, Valley Loop and the Old Fort Point connection at the Valley of the Five Lakes, plus Wabasso Lake trail, as Good, with wet and muddy sections. Skyline sections are individually rated Good or Fair; Wabasso Lake trailhead to Curator Campground is Fair, also with mud. The destination is the campground, not Curator Lodge as previously stated. These are section-specific assessments, not proof that every route suits every visitor or that every section was repaired and reopened in 2026.

The open-site inventory lists Maligne Lake trailhead as open and Maligne Canyon as off limits. Access to the lake does not establish access to the canyon. Parks Canada says dangerous-tree assessment and removal have been completed only on designated trails and areas marked open. Stay on those routes and respect posted closures. We have removed unsupported blanket claims about roads, services and reasons for dog restrictions; check the notices for your particular destination.

Costs have changed too. Parks Canada’s trip-planning page says the seasonal Canada Strong Pass free admission and overnight-stay discounts ended September 7, 2026; regular fees resumed September 8. Before adding Jasper to a Canadian Rockies trip, check current trail reports, closures and charges. This is a dated status update, not a guarantee of access on a later trip.
