Toronto Fire Services held a recruit graduation ceremony at the Toronto Fire and Paramedic Services Training Centre on June 5, 2026. The City's announcement that day records Mayor Olivia Chow and Jim Jessop, who was Fire Chief at the time, welcoming operations firefighters and fire inspectors. The two groups have different responsibilities. The operations recruits completed a 19-week training program and earned professional qualifications through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Their work includes responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous-material incidents and other emergencies. Fire prevention inspectors carry out fire-safety inspections, deal with violations and enforce the Ontario Fire Code under the applicable legislation, regulations and provincial directives. The new inspector recruits were to join the Community Risk Reduction Division with NFPA qualifications as fire inspectors and fire and life safety educators.
