Start with the first and last stop of each day, plus your arrival time. If the CN Tower, Rogers Centre and aquarium anchor your visit, compare addresses in the downtown Entertainment District. A downtown label does not make every attraction an easy walk. With heavy bags, someone who needs frequent breaks, or repeated trips outside the centre, avoiding a transfer may be worth more than a slightly lower room rate.

For airport and regional connections, compare actual addresses around Union Station. The UP Express Union station page explains connections with TTC, GO and the airport train. Add the walk from the platform to your accommodation, accessible routes and luggage time. For a late flight, check that evening’s service and a backup journey: trains do not run around the clock, and a nearby property may still have limited reception hours.
Consider The Annex if university grounds, museums and neighbourhood walks feature in your plans, or Yorkville for boutiques and dining. These are location-based suggestions, not rankings for safety, quietness or price. Map the exact address against your destinations, then read recent comments about night-time noise, heating, cooling and building access.
The Waterfront is another option for lakefront walks or an island outing. The shoreline is extensive: a lake view does not establish proximity to the ferry docks or Union. With children, a stroller or limited walking tolerance, assess the actual route from the door to transit. Use our Toronto itinerary planner to outline your days, then add return transport costs to the accommodation comparison.
Compare hotels, hostels and apartments by services and restrictions, not just photographs. If you need luggage storage, a late arrival or help on site, confirm reception hours and charges. For a hostel, check whether the booking is a dorm bed or private room, shared bathroom arrangements, age restrictions and bag storage. Groups wanting a kitchen or laundry should confirm exclusive access, usable equipment, cleaning charges, occupancy and visitor rules. The accommodation label alone guarantees none of these.
Compare room charges, platform fees, cleaning, parking, deposits and taxes separately. The City’s MAT notice confirms that the temporary 8.5% rate ended: stays beginning August 1, 2026 use 6%. This is not a promise that the entire bill only attracts an extra 6%. The tax-basis guidance distinguishes room costs from specified separately itemized services and states that HST also applies to MAT. Ask the provider to explain an old rate or unclear total before paying.
Apartments offered for short stays require a separate check. Toronto defines a short-term rental as paid use of all or part of a dwelling for less than 28 consecutive days, limited to the operator’s principal residence. Hotels and motels are outside that definition. Do not infer that a 28-day booking automatically creates particular tenancy rights or removes every tax. Establish the actual accommodation arrangement and read the agreement.
For a short-term rental, the City’s guest guidance calls for a listing registration number in STR-0000-XXXXXX format, a contact available around the clock during the stay and a posted exit diagram. Municipal Code Chapter 547 also requires the number on related contracts, invoices or receipts; registration is address- or dwelling-specific. Compare those details with your booking. A number is not an endorsement of accommodation quality.
Read the cancellation deadline, which charges are refundable and when a deposit is returned. Do not move outside the agreed booking process to transfer money for a private-message discount, or rely only on screenshots as identity evidence. Before arriving late, obtain written key or entry instructions and a contact if they fail. Save the booking, itemized bill and cancellation terms. Check your card issuer’s conversion and foreign-transaction fees so comparisons use the same currency and number of nights.
The existing accommodation link below can help compare homes for a group or a stay requiring a kitchen. It is a search starting point, not evidence that we inspected every listing. Check each address, registration, facilities, full price and cancellation terms.
