Canada opened their 2026 World Cup with a 1–1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. This article retains its original publication date of 6 June; the surviving older text was separately marked as updated on 17 June and already covered the 12 June opener. Those dates must not be conflated. The account below revisits the squad and opening-match news, then identifies the later results added on 16 September. All these matches have finished.

Canada Soccer announced 26 players on 29 May, under head coach Jesse Marsch, including Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies and Juventus’s Jonathan David. These were the World Cup selections announced that day, not a preliminary list, a starting XI or a guarantee of appearances in every match. Club names describe the announcement date, not a live September transfer update.

For the 12 June opener in Toronto, FIFA’s official match report records Jovo Lukić’s goal after 21 minutes and a 0–1 half-time deficit for Canada. Cyle Larin came on in the 76th minute and equalised in the 78th for a 1–1 finish. Concacaf’s match report confirms Canada’s first men’s World Cup point. FIFA names the venue Toronto Stadium; Vancouver venue or entry information does not apply to this match.

The Davies news needs its dates attached. Bayern’s 8 May medical update reported a left hamstring injury. The club’s 12 and 13 June diary entries then recorded Marsch’s pre-match confirmation that Davies was unavailable and his absence from the opener. These are historical reports, not a diagnosis of his present health. This article does not infer an injury grade or turn a possible Vancouver return into a confirmed date.

Squad versions also differ. The 29 May announcement included Marcelo Flores; the Canadian list in the 12 June match report included Jayden Nelson. Davies appeared among the substitutes but had no playing record. Comparing the announced squad with the match record does not establish why a change occurred. Being listed as a substitute, actually coming on and starting are distinct facts.

At the older text’s 17 June cutoff, Canada had played their opener, while the 18 June game against Qatar and 24 June game against Switzerland were still ahead; both were scheduled in Vancouver. Later results cannot be projected back onto qualification assessments made then. The squad announcement used Vancouver Stadium; FIFA’s final schedule and results lists both at BC Place Vancouver. This historical account is not current ticketing or entry guidance, and past accommodation demand cannot establish present hotel prices.

Post-tournament update, 16 September: Canada beat Qatar 6–0 on 18 June and lost 1–2 to Switzerland on 24 June. Bayern’s 25 June round-up confirms that Canada advanced to the round of 32 as Group B runners-up. This was established after the opener, not known on 6 or 17 June.

FIFA’s complete results records Canada’s 1–0 round-of-32 win over South Africa on 28 June, followed by a 0–3 loss to Morocco in the round of 16 on 4 July, ending their campaign.
