Information checked on 2 October 2026. Find the bank’s genuine contact first, then separate an ordinary complaint from suspected fraud. An urgent transfer risk should not wait for the routine complaint process to finish.

Verify the contact through your card, statement or independently known official details, not a callback number from an unsolicited caller. A bank name on caller ID can be spoofed. Knowing part of your account information does not replace identity verification. FCAC: verify callers Financial institution complaints
Prepare transaction dates, amounts and a clear problem summary for your own case record. Never disclose online banking passwords, PINs or security answers. Monitor accounts and contact the bank promptly about unknown activity; follow your account agreement and do not pursue a complaint through messages seeking login details. For suspected fraud, contact the financial institution that transferred the funds, save documents, receipts and messages, and report to local police and CAFC with the police file number. Let the bank decide which card or function needs restriction based on the facts; recovery is not guaranteed. CAFC: after fraud Fraud reporting
Banks must have a complaint procedure. Keep the issue, contact dates, replies and requested remedy. If 56 calendar days pass without resolution, or the final written response is unsatisfactory, you may approach OBSI subject to eligibility. Usually you must do so within 180 days of the final response; do not transfer these deadlines to every kind of financial institution. FCAC: bank complaints OBSI complaint process
