FIFA’s match report records that Australia beat Türkiye 2–0 at BC Place Vancouver on June 13, 2026, with a 9 p.m. local kickoff. That was June 14 at 04:00 UTC; dates here use Vancouver local time. It was Australia’s opening Group D match, not its full-tournament record or evidence of the number or identity of people celebrating in the streets. FIFA match report.
Reuters Connect’s original shot list is dated June 13 in Vancouver. It describes fans waving Australian flags, wearing a Socceroos scarf, dancing to music and leaving BC Place, alongside post-match interviews with three Australian supporters. The shot list and interview record support a celebration that day; it cannot count a whole street, establish that everyone travelled from Australia or represent everyone's feelings. Street programming and the official fan festival were separate venues. The City of Vancouver’s retrospective says the Granville Street pedestrian zone, between West Georgia and Davie, operated from June 11 to September 7, 2026; council voted on July 2 to extend it. The listed features included expanded business patios, seating, interactive installations and photo opportunities. Those downtown features were not PNE programming and do not establish one performance or screen along the whole street. The pedestrian-zone period also differed from individual road closures and bus detours. City of Vancouver.
Only Australia's first of three Group D games was in Canada: against Türkiye in Vancouver on June 13, the United States in Seattle on June 19 and Paraguay in the San Francisco Bay Area on June 25. The latter two ended United States 2–0 Australia and 0–0 respectively. Those locations distinguish the three stops, but do not prove that expatriate population, convenient flights or a particular activation caused fans to gather. Completed group fixtures and results are not invitations to an upcoming match. FIFA.
The FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE was a different venue. The host’s March 5 plan set 28 selected match and celebration days, opening June 11, rather than daily operation throughout the tournament. Its guidance distinguished free general admission from paid upgrades: the premium option guaranteed entry to the amphitheatre and a reserved seat; free admission did not include that seat. The host also said re-entry after leaving on general admission depended on venue capacity. Stadium, Granville and PNE rules were not interchangeable.
