Plan a meal with some shopping or a neighbourhood walk, starting with the correct building and day. South Market has permanent merchants; North Market hosts Saturday farmers and other uses, and the district includes St. Lawrence Hall. This is not a compulsory tasting list or an account of meals we have eaten. Prepared food, groceries and weekend events require different checks. A market opening time cannot guarantee every stall, floor or programme is accessible. An old temporary-market address may also serve a different event today.
The City’s April 5, 2025 release records the farmers’ return to the new North building; the May 10 community grand-opening celebration was a separate date. North Market is not simply unused on weekdays. Its current venue information includes event rentals and weekday court services upstairs, with the main floor reserved for farmers on Saturdays. These uses do not promise tourist access to every floor. Follow the admission arrangements of a public event, rather than treating court hours, rental periods or private events as grocery-market hours.
The official hours and holiday page lists South Market Tuesday–Friday 09:00–19:00, Saturday 07:00–17:00 and Sunday 10:00–17:00, normally closed Mondays. North’s farmers’ market is Saturday 05:00–15:00. Holiday notices can override normal hours: Monday December 21, 2026 is listed as open 09:00–19:00, while December 25 and26 are closed. These are checked 2026 notices, not fixed annual exceptions. A particular merchant may have separate opening and supply arrangements; the building’s hours do not guarantee every vendor is trading.
Use stall locations rather than assuming groceries downstairs and restaurants on a second floor. Carousel Bakery’s merchant page lists Upper Level42 and peameal bacon sandwiches; Paddington's Pump lists Upper Level45, peameal sandwiches and sit-down service. “Upper Level” is the market map’s label, not a universal second-floor restaurant zone. Merchant descriptions establish location and offerings, not personal tasting, a best-food ranking or a no-queue guarantee. Check current menu, portion, ingredients and price. Ask the vendor about allergies and dietary requirements instead of inferring the full recipe from a dish name.
Keep October2026 weekend events distinct. Antiques at St. Lawrence Market lists October11 at North Market and regular Sunday hours of09:30–17:00, excluding the last Sunday of each month. The Sunday Variety Vintage Market notice instead gives October10 and11, 10:00–17:00, at the temporary space125 The Esplanade. Despite its name, that notice includes Saturday. These dated events do not establish an identical antiques market every Sunday or a farmers’ market still at the old temporary address. Check the chosen event’s actual date and location rather than following an old photograph or sign.
For payment and mobility, consult the official FAQs. Methods vary by merchant: all accept cash, while many accept Interac or major credit cards. That is not universal card or contactless acceptance. The South entrance elevator serves the Market Gallery, Market Kitchen and lower level, without guaranteeing identical facilities at every seating area or private event. Ask vendors about packaging and storage and allow time to take perishable purchases to appropriate storage. No end-of-day discount, all-organic produce, lower-than-supermarket price or guaranteed fresher, queue-free early visit is promised.
Plan transport to the actual destination: the market contact address is92–95 Front St East, while a temporary event may be at125 The Esplanade. Locate South, North and the event address before calculating walks and transfers from current service, rather than promising five or ten minutes from any station. The official hours page describes a Saturday offer at St. Lawrence Garage, Lower Jarvis and The Esplanade, limited to stated hours and the first two hours; it is not every nearby lot’s price or a space guarantee.
